Minimizing the effect of stretch marks can be a challenging endeavor with the myriad of stretch mark removal alternatives offered in the marketplace today. Some involve the use of stretch mark removers and creams; others involve plastic surgery and laser treatments. But using microdermabrasion for stretch mark removal is an alternative that is not well publicized.

What is Microdermabrasion?

Before considering this method, it is best that you have an understanding of the procedure and the concept behind its use in removing stretch marks. In this form of treatment, the surface of your skin is literally “sanded”. An abrasive is used to remove dead skin cells on the surface of the stretch mark, resulting in collagen and elastin growth.

To enhance the microdermabrasion process, many dermatologists recommend that a high quality stretch mark cream or remover be used to enhance the elastin and collagen growth and help rejuvenate new skin growth.

How Many Treatments Will Be Needed?

The micordermabrasion procedure for stretch mark removal is not a one-stop solution. For effective results, an individual will need to be treated in at least 6 to 10 sessions. Over a two to four week period, there will be a noticeable difference in the skin, with the stretch marks fading in appearance.

Who Should Consider Microdermabrasion?

Stretch marks are common in up to 90% of pregnant women, teenagers whose bodies have grown rapidly, and a majority of individuals who have experienced weight gain. Any of these individuals would be candidates for microdermabrasion stretch mark treatments. Obviously, the results will vary from person to person, depending on their skin’s elasticity, ability to heal, and hereditary traits.

Why not talk to your dermatologist about using microdermabrasion for stretch mark removal. It may just be the right stretch mark solution for you!
